Balancing Techniques

Inside all of us, there are three energy channels that are responsible for our overall state of well being. These channels are known as the left, right, and center, and each reflects different qualities or ways of being.

Basically, most people tend toward behavior that is either left-sided and passive or right-sided and active. Each channel has positive aspects, such as sensitivity and emotional intelligence on the left side, and  dynamism and activity on the right side.  However, if you are overly active or too lethargic, your channels are imbalanced. The ideal is to be in total balance, and to express these qualities in moderation and to remain 'in the center'.

Check yourself! Are you emotional, past-oriented, depressed, or just playing lazy? Then your left channel (left side of the body) could be weak or overused. The best technique here is to use the element of  fire. You can try candling - a very simple exercise where you just sit in meditation with a candle in front of your left hand, and with the right hand palm-up on your lap. Or you can place your right hand on the earth for some time until you feel more balanced.

Do you often find yourself overactive, thinking and/or planning too much, or easily irritated? If this is the case, it might mean that your right side is overheated. To cool down the right side we can use meditation techniques including cold footsoak and placing an ice-pack on the area of the liver for about 20 minutes.

In order to regain balance, we use the opposite element of the channel to clear it out - namely, fire for the cool left side, and ice for the hot right side.  Additionally, while meditating you can put your left hand towards the sky (bend your arm at the elbow, with the palm facing behind). The ether element present in the air, has the capacity to cool down the right side.
these simple techniques and small daily meditations made major changes in our lives.

Both our right and left channels are important, serving as the accelerator and the brakes for our temperament. However, the most important thing is to keep them in balance so that we benefit from their positive attributes, such as:

Right Channel: dynamism, optimism, intellect, quick decision-making, motivation for excellence
Left Channel: love, joy, fun, all positive emotions, understanding of the arts, creativity, sensitivity

We have seen that these simple techniques and small daily meditations made major changes to our lives. Progressing in life has been easier in a balanced state. Imagine a bicycle: you need to balance atop it successfully before charging forward.
